Employee Spotlight: William Coffey

William Coffey is a Western States Cancer Research NCORP’s Regulatory Coordinator in our Denver office.

When did you start working at WSCR-NCORP?
May 2024

What do you like most about the work we do?
I love helping to connect patients with potential treatments that they couldn’t otherwise access – the community health mission.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?
I’m proud of helping enroll some of the first patients in two clinical trials testing treatments for MOG Antibody Disease, a rare neuroimmune disease. One of my close friends has the disease, so being able to contribute to research that could lead to the first targeted treatments for MOG Antibody Disease was especially meaningful.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
I almost joined the Marines after high school. But the University of Miami offered me enough money and freedom of coursework choice that I decided to pursue my undergrad degree.

What do you think makes our team culture unique?
What truly sets our team culture apart is the openness and collaboration that everyone brings to the table. There’s a genuine sense of support and teamwork here, where ideas are freely shared and every voice can guide strategic decisions.

How did you get started in the field of research?
My research journey began as an undergraduate in a neuroscience and systems biology lab at the University of Miami, where I deepened my interest in the intricacies of the brain. I did some more bench science at chemistry lab in England developing small-molecule drugs. After a detour from research, I transitioned to clinical research because it is more tangible in how it can directly impact someone’s life.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I’d love to sail the Dalmatian coast and visit my grandmother’s family’s village on the island of Hvar, Croatia.
